MOT Testing

Once your car reaches three years old from the date it was first registered, you’re legally required to take it for an MOT test, and obtain a certificate. The test checks your car meets national safety and environmental standards, and isn’t producing too many harmful emissions.

Book your MOT with Dryclough Garage

The Ministry of Transport (MOT) certificate lasts for a year, so you’ll need to have your car tested every 12 months thereafter. Without a valid certificate, you can’t insure your vehicle or tax it, and you may also be fined up £1,000.  So it’s important you make a note of when your car’s due its next test.

You also need to bear in mind that the test doesn’t necessarily mean your car will remain roadworthy over the following year. You must still keep it well-maintained, and regularly serviced. Visit our Car Servicing section to find out how we can help you with this.

At Dryclough Lane Garage we’re fully-equipped and authorised to carry out MOT testing, so it’s easy for you to book and drop-in your car, locally.

Comprehensive Safety Checks

Our test follows standard criteria set by the DVSA, and covers comprehensive safety checks to find out if your car is fit for the road. One of our own DVSA-approved testers will assess your car’s general mechanical condition, and inspect a host of other things including lights, mirrors, seatbelts, windscreen and wipers, tyres and exhaust emissions.

If your car passes the test, we’ll give you an MOT certificate covering you for the next 12 months. Also, if appropriate, a separate list advising you of any jobs that will need attention in the near future. So, you’re warned of potential problems in the offing.

What happens if it fails?

Should your car fail the test, if only for simple reasons, you won’t be able to legally drive it away.  However major or minor the faults, we can carry out any necessary repairs to save you the trouble of going elsewhere.  Obviously more convenient and cost-effective, as we can also re-test your car for free afterwards, and give you a pass certificate.

Combined Service & MOT

Since many cars are often due an annual service as well as an MOT, so you can get both jobs done at once on the same day. Obviously, this will take longer, but gives you peace of mind.

Book early!

Your car can be tested up to 28 days before your existing MOT certificate expires, and the new one will then be valid for 13 months. So, you won’t lose out by booking it in early. Just give us a call!
